Hip-Hop and sports have always lived in the same neighborhood. Rappers want to be ballers, ballers want to rap, and both worlds come with the same kind of pressure: money, fame, travel, cameras, group chats, haters, fans, and everybody thinking they know your business because they saw one blurry photo online. So when a rapper and an athlete link up, it makes sense. They understand the grind, the ego, the schedule, the spotlight, and the fact that a regular date night can turn into a headline by breakfast.
That’s also why these relationships hit differently than regular celebrity couples. An athlete can have a bad game, and suddenly, the internet is blaming whoever they’re dating. A rapper drops one lyric, and now fans are trying to decode the whole relationship like it’s a crime scene. It’s love, but it’s also branding, speculation, courtside seats, red carpets, subtle Instagram posts, and sometimes a breakup that turns into a full-blown timeline war.
And lately, the rapper-athlete pipeline has been busy. Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson’s relationship (and recent split) put the conversation right back in people’s faces, while couples like Cardi B and Stefon Diggs, GloRilla and Brandon Ingram, and past pairings like Trina and Kenyon Martin remind folks that this has been happening for decades. Some of these couples were loud with it, some kept it low, and some became legendary for the drama alone.
So with that in mind, here are 12 rappers who have dated athletes, past and present.
Cardi B & Stefon Diggs

Cardi B and NFL star Stefon Diggs became one of the newer rapper-athlete couples to dominate the timeline. The two were first linked in 2024, made their relationship more public in 2025, and welcomed their first child together in November 2025. Cardi has also been seen supporting Diggs during his football run, which only made the pairing feel even more like a real deal WAG era for one of rap’s biggest personalities.
Megan Thee Stallion & Klay Thompson

Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson went from whispers and public appearances to becoming one of the most talked-about celebrity-athlete relationships in recent memory. The two were publicly linked in 2025, but by April 2026, Megan confirmed the relationship was over, citing trust, fidelity, and respect as issues after allegations of cheating hit social media. Whether people sided with Megan, defended Klay, or just came for the mess, this one became the latest reminder that when rap and sports collide, the breakup can be louder than the rollout.
GloRilla & Brandon Ingram
GloRilla and Brandon Ingram have been giving off a “lowkey but not really” vibe since they were first linked in 2025. The Memphis rapper has been spotted courtside supporting the NBA forward, rocking a No. 3 chain in honor of his jersey number, and even celebrating with him after big moments. Glo has made it clear she likes keeping the relationship somewhat private, but the pictures, handshakes and courtside energy have already told fans plenty.
Trina & Kenyon Martin

Trina and Kenyon Martin are classic examples of a rapper-and-baller couple from the pre-Instagram era. They dated in the late 2000s, and the relationship became even more memorable because Martin famously got Trina’s lips tattooed on his neck. They eventually split, but that pairing still gets brought up because it has that early-2000s Miami-meets-the-NBA energy all over it.
Cordae & Naomi Osaka

Cordae and Naomi Osaka were one of the more respected rapper-athlete couples because they never seemed thirsty for attention. The rapper and tennis champion were first linked in 2019, welcomed their daughter Shai in 2023, and Osaka announced in January 2025 that they were no longer together. Even after the split, their relationship stayed classy, with Osaka publicly speaking well of Cordae as a father.
Da Brat & Allen Iverson
Da Brat and Allen Iverson were a real “you had to be there” couple back when they were both in their prime. Da Brat later opened up about dating the NBA icon, saying she used to cook, pick out his clothes, travel with him, and was deep in love before the relationship eventually fizzled. It was a fascinating pairing because Iverson already moved like Hip-Hop in basketball form, so his dating one of rap’s biggest women of that era almost made too much sense.
Iggy Azalea & Nick Young

Iggy Azalea and Nick Young were once headed toward marriage before everything fell apart in a very public fashion. The rapper and NBA guard got engaged in 2015, but their relationship became messy after a leaked video appeared to show Young discussing cheating. Iggy eventually called off the engagement, and the breakup became one of the most viral athlete-rapper scandals of the 2010s.
Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes & Andre Rison

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and former NFL star Andre Rison had one of the most infamous rapper-athlete relationships ever. Their romance was passionate, chaotic, and heavily covered by tabloids, especially after the 1994 fire incident at Rison’s home. Despite the drama, their relationship remained a major part of ’90s pop culture history, and Lifetime later revisited it as one of its headline-making celebrity love stories.
Common & Serena Williams
Common and Serena Williams kept things mostly private, but their relationship was still significant. Serena appeared in Common’s “I Want You” video in 2007, and the two dated until around 2010. Years later, Common spoke respectfully about their time together, and the two remained supportive of each other professionally, which is honestly rare when celebrity exes are involved.
Drake & Serena Williams

Drake and Serena Williams were never the type to give everybody a full press conference about what they had going on, but they were romantically linked for years. Reports have linked them as far back as 2011, and they were spotted looking close in 2015, while Drake was also showing public support at Serena’s match. Their rumored romance still comes up because Drake’s dating life and Serena’s greatness both attract scrutiny that most people can’t imagine.
Papoose & Claressa Shields

Papoose and boxing champion Claressa Shields have become one of the more talked-about recent rapper-athlete pairings because of all the outside noise around them. Shields has publicly referred to Papoose as her man, shut down breakup rumors, and even addressed engagement speculation by clarifying that an old ring video had nothing to do with him. Whether people approve or not, the relationship has kept fans talking because it sits right at the intersection of Hip-Hop loyalty debates, boxing fame, and internet mess.
Amy Luciani & Dwight Howard

Amy Luciani and Dwight Howard brought reality-TV energy into the rapper-athlete conversation. The rapper and former NBA star went public with their relationship and engagement, giving fans another example of how quickly a sports-and-music romance can become social media content. Their pairing may not have the long history of some others on this list, but it definitely fits the current era, where one post can turn a private relationship into a full public storyline.
