Demonstrators from all over the nation have been taking to America’s biggest citiest to participate in the “No Kings” march. Last week, protesters clashed with law enforcement in Los Angeles, and one Philadelphia activist, a self-described “Socialist with a license to carry,” said that “Philly could look like L.A. in two weeks.”

This past weekend, protesters gathered at Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the ‘No Kings’ protest in Philadelphia for the to peacefully object President Donald Trump and the current administration.

What is No Kings?

The “No Kings” theme was orchestrated by the 50501 Movement, a national movement made up of Americans who oppose what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.

Philly Mag contributor Patrick Rapa reported that the “No Kings” protest in Philadelphia was generally peaceful and without any of the chaos and conflicts that many of us feared.

Although authorities handed out a handful of citations. Police only made one ‘major’ arrest during the protests.

Richard Pignato, a 31-year-old protester from Lancaster, has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct for allegedly attacking a police officer. The judge set bail at $100,000, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 1st.

The “No Kings” march in Philadelphia started around 10 a.m. at Love Park on 16th Street between JFK Boulevard and Cherry Street, on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 16th and 17th streets, and on Arch Street between 15th and 16th streets. By 12:30 p.m., the march made its way down the Parkway to the rally location at Eakins Oval and the Philadelphia Museum of Art East Apron. The rally took place at 1 p.m. and lasted up until 3 p.m.
