Two Killed in Church Hill House Fire, Child Among Victims

A 10 year old boy and a 70 year old woman were found dead following a house fire in Richmond’s Church Hill neighborhood on Saturday morning. The Richmond Fire Department confirmed the deaths after crews responded to a residential blaze on North 22nd Street.
Firefighters were dispatched just before 9 a.m. on Dec. 13 after reports of a structure fire. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire conditions and immediately began suppression efforts along with search and rescue operations inside the home. During the response, a partial structural collapse occurred, adding to the dangerous conditions faced by firefighters.
The woman was located on the first floor and pronounced dead at the scene. The child was later found on the second floor and also pronounced dead. A third occupant, a 56 year old man, was rescued from the home and transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment.
